Finding Connection in the Chaos: A Journey to Reconnect with Myself

Updated: Aug 3

Embracing the Journey of Self-Discovery

I was going to wait to write something until I suddenly felt inspired. That's typically how I write—it's sudden and abrupt, a release of thoughts and feelings into words. But then, life caught up with me.

The kids got out of school. Family time. Vacation. Work obligations.

Suddenly, I realized it had been weeks since I had written anything. I thought, it will come when it's ready. But more distractions followed.

Then, I had a revelation.

I'm not feeling inspired because I'm not connected.

I'm too busy with life to truly live and feel. To connect with inspiration, divinity, love, and all the things that make me feel alive.

So, I sat down and thought, I need to write.

The Importance of Purposeful Connection

I forced myself to seek inspiration, and what I discovered is profound: we have to be purposeful if we want to reconnect and keep connecting. We must set aside time to put everything else down and tune in.

Maybe that's what Sundays are for, or Shabbat on Fridays. But for me, I need it more frequently. I need it daily.

When I don’t take that time, my life feels chaotic. I feel overwhelmed and uncertain. But when I carve out moments to write, paint, spend time in nature, or simply allow myself a quiet moment to be present, something beautiful happens.

I reconnect.

Maybe we’re waiting for connection to come. But perhaps the reality is that sometimes we have to seek it. And when we do, it’s always there.

Daily Rituals: Finding Your Sacred Time

What daily rituals do you have? When is your sacred time?

I drive a lot. We live way out of town, and sometimes it feels like I live in my vehicle. I used to dread driving—commuting to work, taking the kids to school. I would spend several hours a week in my car.

But then, I began to make my time in the vehicle sacred.

It became my space to reflect, think, and feel. A sanctuary where I could be fully open, vulnerable, and truthful with myself. I would pray, cry, laugh, and plan.

I learned to let go of whatever I needed to and reconnect whenever I felt lost. Now, those long drives aren’t so bad. In fact, they’ve become a vital part of my life.

The Power of Small Moments

As a busy mom, life is full. Responsibilities, schedules, errands, work, and children who need me. I can't always disappear into nature or spend an afternoon writing or painting. But I can find small moments.

I've learned that connection isn't always about where you are. It's about creating the space to be present.

Sometimes that’s through writing. Sometimes it’s through art. Sometimes it’s standing outside and letting myself melt into the world around me—the breeze, the trees, the sunlight, and the feeling of being part of something bigger than myself.

And sometimes, it’s simply sitting in my car on a long drive. The place changes, but the purpose stays the same. It’s about coming back to myself.

Cherishing the Sacred Space

There were moments in my life when I didn’t have that luxury. I had babies and toddlers. Little ones constantly in tow, and car rides were rarely alone.

I remember a time after having our second child. I was home on maternity leave with a toddler and a newborn. My sacred space was the bathroom. It was sneaking away for a little while. It was a long, hot shower. It was those precious moments during a baby’s nap.

They were short-lived but powerful. I had to set the intention and seek those little moments for myself. And when I did, I was able to reconnect and let go of whatever I was clinging to.

Embracing Change and Evolution

As my life and circumstances change, so does my time and space. I know that next year it may look completely different, and that’s okay. Our lives are always changing and evolving, and we have to be willing to evolve and change with them.

We must find those small moments of time—the little pieces of sacredness that make us feel whole again. Whether it’s painting, writing, a walk in nature, sitting in a quiet car, or simply taking a deep breath...

You need to find your space.

Your place where you can release what needs to be let go of and reconnect to what you’ve been missing.

Yourself.

Divinity.

Life.

Seeking Inspiration in Stillness

So, the next time you’re feeling lost and waiting for inspiration to come, remember that it can only come if you’re open to receive it. If you’re too busy running around, consumed by the daily tasks of life, you’ll miss it.

We have to take the time to seek it. But when we do, we will find it.

In this journey of self-discovery, I’ve learned that the most profound connections often arise from the simplest moments. It’s in the stillness that we can hear our own hearts, and in that quiet, we can find the inspiration we seek.

Let’s embrace those moments together. Let’s create a space where we can all feel connected, inspired, and alive.
